Our Story: From a 92km Trek to a Cultural Ecosystem.
It all began with a question and a backpack in the mountains of Chalatenango. Seeking to understand the scars of the civil war in my home country, El Salvador, I walked 92 kilometres guided by a former guerrilla fighter. On those trails, amidst stories of resistance and communities yearning to be heard, La Ruta del Guerrillero was born. My mission was clear: for the world to understand our past so that we, as a society, would never repeat it.
Over time, with maturity and shifts in the political landscape of my country, we evolved into simply La Ruta. We expanded our horizons across Latin America, from the beaches of El Salvador to the streets of Cuba, proudly representing my country at the world’s most vital tourism fairs: Madrid, Paris, Rimini, and London. Armed with international AQUILA certification for cruise operations and having participated in business roundtables across the continent, we honed the art of creating authentic human experiences.
When the world ground to a halt in 2020 and borders closed, the stories did not. That is how La Ruta Magazine came to be—our editorial space designed to continue travelling through words, culture, and gastronomy when we could no longer do so physically.
Today, based in London, La Ruta Travels and La Ruta Magazine are the legacy of that initial trek. We firmly believe that travel is the greatest way to understand one another, and that every destination has a story that deserves to be told with respect and passion.
